Central Islip, NY: June 11, 2010—Adrian Wyllie, senior a member of the University of the District of Columbia Men’s Tennis Team, has been named to the East Coast Conference 2010 Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. Wyllie joins Queens College junior Robby Scheuing and St. Thomas Aquinas junior Nick Cittadino on this prestigious academic list. Scheuing was named the 2010 Men’s Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Washington, DC: May 27, 2010: The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), which is the governing body of college tennis, overseeing men's and women's varsity tennis at NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges has announced that Tomas Gajdusek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Nad Stolou), a sophomore tennis player for the University of the District of Columbia has been named to the 2010 NCAA Division II Men’s-East Singles Team.

Central Islip, N.Y. : April 21, 2010-- Sophomore Tomas Gajdusek (Prague, Czech Republic /Gymnazium Nad Stolou) from the University of the District of Columbia has been tabbed the 2010 East Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year, as voted on by the league’s coaches. UDC Head Tennis Coach T. Richard Mahaffey, III, when speaking of Gajdusek’s selection said, “I am very pleased the Conference coaches have recognized Tomas' accomplishments this season and am very proud of how Tomas has conducted himself on and off the tennis court.”

Shepherdstown, WV: April 15, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Tennis Team closed out its regular season in fine fashion this afternoon, defeating the Shepherd University Rams, 7-2, in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The Firebirds swept the doubles matches, 3-0, before going on to win 4 of the singles matches.

Washington, DC: April 9, 2010-- With a strong, blustery wind in their faces, the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Tennis Team got off to a slow start in their match against the Virginia State University Trojans this afternoon at the Southeast Tennis Complex & Learning Center, which resulted in a close, 5-4, defeat. The Trojans opened the match with straight doubles wins to give them a, 3-0, advantage

Oakdale, NY: April 3, 2010—The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men’s Tennis Team put up a good fight, but eventually fell to the St Thomas Aquinas Spartans, 5-4, at Sparkill, New York, this afternoon. UDC players won two of the doubles matches and two singles matches.

Oakdale, NY: April 2, 2010—Dowling College’s Men’s Tennis Team edged the University of the District of Columbia, 5-4, today in Oakdale, NY. UDC junior Karlon Bernard (Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago/Scarborough Secondary) led the Firebirds with wins in singles and doubles play. Bernard and partner senior Adrian Wyllie (Kingstown, St. Vincent/St. Joseph Convent) defeated their doubles opponents 8-4, then Bernard went on to win his singles match 6-4, 4-6, 18-16.

Washington, DC: March 31, 2010—With a 2-1 doubles match lead, the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men’s Tennis Team had high hopes of sealing the overall match victory with enough singles wins. It appeared that they would get the win after singles match wins by Tomas Gajdusek, 6-1, 6-1, and Mahmut Demirkol, 6-1, 6-2, but that would not be sufficient as UDC lost the next four singles matches and fell to St. Mary’s by the score of 5-4.

Washington, DC: March 27, 2010-- Sophomore Tomas Gajdusek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Nad Stolou) provided the only match win for the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Tennis Team as they fell to Queens College, 8-1, this afternoon at the American University Tennis Courts. Gajdusek defeated James Preston 2-6, 6-4, 10-8, in singles match play .

Emmitsburg, MD; March 25, 2010—The Mount of Mt. Saint Mary’s University defeated the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men'sTennis Team, 6-1, this afternoon in Emmitsburg, Maryland. UDC’s doubles combo of sophomores Mahmut Demirkol (Istanbul, Turkey/Ozdemir Sabanci Emirgan Lisesi) and Tomas Gajdusek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Nad Stolou) defeated Patrick Plastow and Matthew Blake, 8-3, in the first doubles match. Mt. Saint Mary’s won the two remaining doubles matches, 8-2, and by default.

Washington, DC: March 18, 2010: The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men’s Tennis Team fell to the Catholic University Cardinals, 5-4, in an afternoon match at Catholic today. Catholic won two doubles matches,while UDC took one. The Firebirds went on to win the first three singles matches with victories by sophomore Tomas Gajdusek/Prague, Czech Republic (6-7, 6-4), sophomore Mahmut Demirkol/ Istanbul, Turkey (6-2, 6-1, 6-0), and senior Adrian Wyllie/Kingstown, St. Vincent (1-6, 6-3, 6-2)

Washington, DC: March 16, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Tennis Team swept the Virginia Union University Panthers, 9-0, this afternoon at the Georgetown University McDonough Tennis Complex. The Firebirds took the doubles competition, 3-0, before going on to win the singles, 6-0, on a bright, sunshiny, but windy day.

College Park, MD: February 27, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Tennis Team fell to the Philadelphia University Rams, 7-2, tonight at the Tennis Center in their season opening match. The Firebirds lost all doubles matches but won two singles matches as sophomore Tomas Gajdusek defeated Kyle Burke 6-4, 6-0, and sophomore Mahmut Demirkol defeated Manoli Sgouros 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.

Washington, DC— Patricia A. Thomas, director of athletics at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) has announced the appointment of Theodore Richard F. Mahaffey, III, as head men’s and women’s tennis coach at the University. Mahaffey comes to the University from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he served as assistant tennis coach for their Division I men’s and women’s tennis teams from 2006 thru early 2009.

Thomas, director of athletics for the University of the District of Columbia, has announced that the University will participate as an associate member of the East Coast Conference (ECC) in men’s and women’s tennis, effective fall 2009. The NCAA Division II East Coast Conference (ECC) currently incorporates 8 schools, stretching from Eastern Long Island, New York, to the Southern Central region of Connecticut.
