T. Richard Mahaffey Named New UDC Head Men's & Women's Tennis Coach
Washington, DC— Patricia A. Thomas,
director of athletics at the University of the District of Columbia
(UDC) has announced the appointment of Theodore Richard F.
Mahaffey, III, as head men’s and women’s
tennis coach at the University. Mahaffey comes to the
University from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he
served as assistant tennis coach for their Division I men’s
and women’s tennis teams from 2006 thru early 2009.
Thomas, in making the announcement said, “Coach Mahaffey
brings expertise, enthusiasm and an outstanding work ethic to our
program. His experiences at two of the country’s most
outstanding academic institutions prepared him to serve our
students in support of the mission of the University of the
District of Columbia.” Mahaffey stated “I am
thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the tennis programs at my
home city’s university. I am looking forward to getting the
UDC Firebirds ready to soar in NCAA Division II tennis and the East
Coast Conference”.
Mahaffey‘s tennis experience includes having served as
assistant director and senior instructor for the Georgetown
University Tennis Camp from 2005-2007, director of tennis for
the One on One Basketball In Training – Dual Sports Camps,
and assistant head tennis pro for the Edgemoor Club. He is a
1995 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, from which he
received a Bachelors of Arts Degree in International Relations.
Coach Mahaffey has also pursued further studies at Georgetown
University in financial and managerial accounting.
Coach Mahaffey ‘s other experiences includes having served as a consultant at several large corporations, including Booz-Allen & Hamilton , the U.S. Defense Department, and the Washington Strategic Consulting Group and Trade Builders. He has also served as director of operations for the Leeward Islands Lottery Holding Company of the Virgin Islands.
