UDC Falls to St. Thomas Aquinas, 5-4

 Oakdale, NY: April 3, 2010—The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men’s Tennis Team put up a good fight, but eventually fell to the St Thomas Aquinas Spartans, 5-4, at Sparkill, New York, this afternoon.  UDC players won two of the doubles matches and two singles matches.

The first UDC doubles team of sophomores Tomas Gajdusek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Nad Stolou) and Mahmut Demirkol (Istanbul, Turkey/Ozdemir Sabanci Emirgan Lisesi) defeated Killian Wantzen and Nick Cittadino 9-7.  In the second doubles win for UDC senior Adrian Wyllie (Kingstown, St. Vincent/St. Joseph Convent) and junior Karlan Bernard

(Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago/Scarborough Secondary) defeated Ed Reiter and Mel Gonzales, 8-5.

In singles match play Gajdusek defeated Nicolas Jacques 6-4, 6-3, while team mate, junior, Lalindra Jayatilleke (Suva, Fiji Islands/Suva Grammar School) defeated Paul Schumann 6-2, 6-0.
