Dowling Edges UDC, 5-4

Oakdale, NY: April 2, 2010—Dowling College’s Men’s Tennis Team edged the University of the District of Columbia, 5-4, today in Oakdale, NY. UDC junior Karlon Bernard (Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago/Scarborough Secondary) led the Firebirds with wins in singles and doubles play. Bernard and partner senior Adrian Wyllie (Kingstown, St. Vincent/St. Joseph Convent) defeated their doubles opponents 8-4, then Bernard went on to win his singles match 6-4, 4-6, 18-16.

Also wining for the Firebirds were sophomore Tomas Gajdusek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Nad Stolou) who won his singles match 5-2, after his opponent retired, and junior Lalindra Jayatilleke (Suva, Fiji Islands/Suva Grammar School) who defeated his singles opponent 6-1, 6-4.
