CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – On Thursday, August 8, the East Coast Conference announced the recipients of the first ever ECC Academic Teams of Excellence Award. The University of the District of Columbia men's and women's tennis teams were among the honorees.

OLD WESTBURY, NY - Graduate student Lorraine Galow (Suwanee, Georgia) of the University of Bridgeport women’s gymnastics team, junior Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.) of the LIU Post baseball team and senior Kristyna Nepivodova (Breznice, Czech Republic) of the University of the District of Columbia women’s tennis team have been named the 2013 recipients of the John Smillie, Jr. Award.

WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Kristyna Nepivodova of the University of the District of Columbia women’s tennis team was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 1 First Team as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) on Friday afternoon. She is now eligible for Academic All-American honors.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - Junior Jessica Nunez earned First Team All-East Coast Conference while sophomore Maxime Duijst and senior Krystina Nepivodova both were named Second Team All-ECC as the conference announced its All-Conference teams and individual awards on Sat., Oct. 6.

Junior Jessica Nunez was defeated by former ACC Rookie of the Year, transfer from Clemson, Nelly Ciolkowski at No. 1 singles for the decisive fifth point.

FLUSHING, NY - Reigning East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Champion, University of the District of Columbia, has earned a No. 3 seed in this year's ECC Championship Tournament hosted by Queens College. The Firebirds (6-2, 4-2 ECC) will square off against No. 2 seed NYIT (9-1, 6-2 ECC) on Friday, October 5th at 11 a.m.

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over East Coast Conference foe Dowling on Wednesday afternoon at UDC Tennis Courts. The Firebirds improved to 5-2 on the season and extended their home win-streak to 12 matches.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Junior Jessica Nunez won her round of 16 match but fell in the quarterfinal round of the Women’s A singles bracket as the University of the District of Columbia women’s tennis team competed in Day 2 of the ITA East Regional Championship in Philadelphia. Also, junior Sofia Leon fell in the second round of the Women’s B singles draw and junior Tadai Abilla and Leon dropped their round of 16 match in the B doubles draw.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Junior Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering – Guayaquil, Ecuador/American School of Guayaquil), a No. 7 seed in the Women’s A Singles bracket, is leading the Firebird charge during Day 1 of the ITA East Regional Tournament as she advanced to the 3rd round by virtue of a convincing, 6-1, 6-0 win over Queens’ Daniela Celi on Saturday.

Sofia Leon earned the match-clinching singles victory at the No. 4 spot.

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia women’s tennis team bounced back after a loss to Queens College to record a win against St. Mary’s College of Maryland by a score of 6-2. With the win, the Firebirds extended their home winning streak to eleven.
