District of Columbia Claims Away Win Against Molloy College, 6-3

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY - The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team claimed their third win in a row with a victory away at ECC opponent Molloy College, 6-3.  With the win, the Firebirds improved to 6-2 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.

The Firebirds started off the day with a forfeit at the No. 3 doubles match due to an insufficient lineup.  Junior Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering – Guayaquil, Ecuador/American School of Guayaquil) and junior Sofia Leon (Psychology – Quito, Ecuador/Pensionado Universitario) tallied the first win of the day with an 8-2 victory in No. 2 doubles play.  In the No. 1 doubles match, junior Kristyna Nepivodova (Economics – Breznice, Czech Republic/Gymnasium pod Svatou Horou) and sophomore Maxime Duijst (Biology – Valkenswaard, Netherlands/Pleincollege Sint-Joris) recorded a win over their opponents by a score of 8-3.

The No. 6 singles match was forfeited by the Firebirds due to an insufficient lineup.  Nunez secured the first singles win by defeating Nikki Gloria of Molloy College 6-2, 6-1.  In the No. 2 singles match, Nepivodova eased past Tatiana Rojona 6-1, 6-2.  With victory in sight, senior Tadai Abilla (TV Production – Galloway, NJ/Absegami HS) won the No. 5 singles match against Danielle Byrnes 6-0, 7-5 to secure the win for the Firebirds.  Leon then followed up with a thrilling match win against Gabrielle DiCroce 6-7(5), 6-1, 11-9.  The only singles match win for Molloy came as District of Columbia's Duijst lost to Madeline Jurlano 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.
