District of Columbia Women's Tennis Eases Past St. Mary's College of Maryland, 6-2

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team bounced back after a loss to Queens College to record a win against St. Mary's College of Maryland by a score of 6-2.  With the win, the Firebirds extended their home winning streak to eleven.

The singles matches were played first, with the No. 6 singles match being forfeited by the Firebirds due to an insufficient lineup.  Junior Kristyna Nepivodova (Economics – Breznice, Czech Republic/Gymnasium pod Svatou Horou) stamped out the first win for the Firebirds with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Lauren Rost.  Junior Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering – Guayaquil, Ecuador/American School of Guayaquil) followed up with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Ramsey.  Then senior Tadai Abilla (TV Production – Galloway, NJ/Absegami HS) notched on a third win on the night with a victory over Passaniti 6-1, 6-1. 

The No. 3 singles match was won by sophomore Maxime Duijst (Biology – Valkenswaard, Netherlands/Pleincollege Sint-Joris) 6-0, 6-1 over Stampfig.  With the overall win in sight, junior Sofia Leon (Psychology – Quito, Ecuador/Pensionado Universitario) was able to clinch the victory for the Firebirds by beating Emily Rost 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match.

Doubles play got under way with another forfeit by the Firebirds in the No. 3 doubles match due to an insufficient lineup.  Nunez and Duijst were able to win the only doubles match of the night by a convincing score of 8-0.  The No. 2 doubles match was scheduled, but not played.

District of Columbia will be back in action on Saturday, September 22nd in Philadelphia at the ITA East Regional Championship.
