PHILADELPHIA, PA – Junior Jessica Nunez (Electrical Engineering – Guayaquil, Ecuador/American School of Guayaquil), a No. 7 seed in the Women's A Singles bracket, is leading the Firebird charge during Day 1 of the ITA East Regional Tournament as she advanced to the 3rd round by virtue of a convincing, 6-1, 6-0 win over Queens' Daniela Celi on Saturday.

Nunez first received a bye in the round of 64, and will now play in the round of 16 after her win over Celi. She and sophomore Maxime Duijst (Biology – Valkenswaard, Netherlands/Pleincollege Sint-Joris) won their 1st round doubles match in the Women's A bracket, but were ousted, 8-5 in round two by a doubles pair from Concordia.

In women's B singles action, junior Sofia Leon (Psychology – Quito, Ecuador/Pensionado Universitario) defeated Merrimack's Kara Hole, 8-2 to advance to tomorrow's 2nd round. Ty Abilla was defeated by Southern Connecticut's Meryl Lawrence, 8-3.

Leon and Abilla teamed up for a dominating, 8-1 win over a doubles pair from USciences to advance to round two of the Women's B doubles bracket.

The Firebirds are back in action at the ITA East Regional Championship in Philadelphia tomorrow.
