Matthew L. Thompson Named New Head Men's Soccer Coach

Patricia Thomas, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of the District of Columbia has announced the appointment of Matthew L. Thompson as the University’s new men’s head soccer coach. In making the announcement Thomas said, “We were fortunate to have a strong pool of candidates, however Matthew Thompson was clearly the right choice for the University of the District of Columbia.
Firebirds Soccer Closes Out Season Falling to Davis & Elkins, 2-0

Elkins, WV: October 30, 2010-- After a hard fought contest, the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men' Soccer Team succumbed, 2-0, to the Davis & Elkins College Senators, today, in Elkins, West Virginia. The tough defensive play demonstrated by both teams worked to the advantage of Davis & Elkins as they were able to score two goals and gain the shut out.
Firebirds Get Solid Soccer Win Over Lincoln, 5-1

Lincoln, PA: October 27, 2010- Five different players on the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men’s Soccer Team scored goals this afternoon, to give them a, 5-1, win over the Lincoln University Lions in Lincoln, Pennsylvania. It was the Firebirds second defeat of the Lions this season.

The Marauders used an effective defense to fend off all Firebirds efforts to score and delivered a 5-0 shutout to the visitors in Millersville, Pennsylvania .
Firebirds Challenge Mercyhursts Unbeaten Streak, Fall 4-1

Washington, DC: October 17, 2010--The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Mens Soccer Team held their ground with the undefeated Mercyhurst College Lakers before eventually falling to them, 4-1, today at the UDC Soccer in Washington, DC. The Firebirds gave them a run for their money in the first half as Mercyhurst scored the first goal of the match, but UDC struck back when sophomore defender/mid-fielder Marion Banegas (Business- Frederick, Maryland) scored on a penalty kick in the 38th minute to knot the match at 1.

It would not be enough, though, as the Huskies held on for the 3-2 win.
