UDC Shutouts Lincoln, 10-0, in Men's Soccer

Washington, DC: September 16, 2010-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Soccer Team garnered their first win of the season, today, with a, 10-0, shutout of the Lincoln University Lions at the UDC Soccer Field in Washington, DC.  UDC put on a scoring clinic as they amassed 4 goals in the first half, then added 6 more in the second half.

Freshman forward Kaine Moar (Mechanical Engineering major-Ontario, Canada) led the Firebird scoring, turning a hat trick,  with 3 goals, the first with a cross assist from freshman defender Wilfredo Roque ( Lorton, VA) in the 37th minute; the second in the 41st minute, unassisted and the third in the 54th minute on a penalty kick.

Freshman forward Diego Alvarado (Germantown, MD) started the Firebird scoring with a goal in the 8th minute, on a cross assist from junior mid-fielder Tansu Korkmaz (Business major-Istanbul, Turkey). Sophomore forward Adriel Garcia (Physical Education major-Centro Indaiatuba, Brazil) scored two goals, the first in the 14th minute on a header from the corner and the second in the 64th minute on a cross from freshman forward Desean Ragland (Baltimore, MD). Ragland scored a goal of his own in the 88th minute with a cross assist from freshman mid-fielder Jose Garcia (education major-Sterling Virginia).

Sophomore defender Richard Barrett (Engineering major-Bowie, MD) also scored two goals during the match, the first in the 81st minute unassisted and the second in the 85th minute on a cross from freshman mid-fielder Jose Garcia (Education major-Sterling, VA). Junior defender Nano Bamfo (Engineering major-Upper Marlboro, MD) added to the tally with an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute.

UDC Soccer Head Coach Khary Stockton said of his team's first win, "I was real happy with the way the guys came out with a high level of intensity, and the result was that we got early goals and were able to play the way we wanted, which is to knock the ball around. We were very organized defensively and, therefore, we scored a lot of goals."

UDC, 1-3-1, returns to the field for their next match on Saturday, September 18, at 1 p.m., at home against Wheeling Jesuit University.
