Wheeling Jesuit Escapes with , 1-0, Win Over UDC in Soccer

Washington, DC: September 18, 2010- Paul Silverstone took a cross from Kevin Robson and fired the ball into the back of the net in the 74th minute of today's Wheeling Jesuit University-University of the District of Columbia Men's Soccer match to give the Cardinals a, 1-0, win over the Firebirds at the UDC Soccer Field.

There were strong defensive efforts by both teams, today, with a combined  8 goal saves. Cardinals goal keeper Shane Young faced 12 shots on goal and made 6 saves, while Firebirds goalie freshman Kyle Heatherington (Business major-Collingwood, On. Canada) faced 12 shots on goal and made 2 saves.

The Firebirds had a last chance opportunity to score when freshman forward Desean Ragland 's ( Baltimore, MD) free kick, in the 89th minute, hit the top of the cross bar and sailed over the net . Both teams played aggressively, moving the ball to each other' s scoring zone, but missed scoring with wide shots or had them blocked by the defenders.

The Firebirds fell to 1-4-2 with this loss.  They will return to the field on Tuesday,  September 21, hosting the Washington Adventist Shock at 5 p.m.
