Shippensburg Edges UDC,3-2, in Overtime

Shippensburg, PA: September 29, 2010—The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Soccer Team was edged by the Shippensburg Raiders, 3-2, in overtime this afternoon in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.

The Raiders scored the first goal of the match when sophomore mid-fielder Michael Celius took a cross from Rostad in the 10th minute.  The Firebirds got on the board when freshman forward Kaine Moar  (Mechanical Engineering-Ontario, Canada) scored in the 32nd minute with an assist from sophomore defender Mario Banegas (Business-Frederick, MD).

The second UDC goal came in the 75th minute when freshman defender Wilfredo Roque (Lorton, VA) took a cross assist from sophomore forward Adriel Garcia (Physical Education-Centro Indaiatuba, Brazil) to get the ball into the back of the net to give them a, 2-1, lead.

Shippensburg came back in the 85th minute to knot the score at 2, when freshman forward Derrick Roy scored with an assist from senior forward Miles Harriger. With the score tied at 2, the match went into overtime.  One minute in overtime senior forward Dave Rostad scored a goal to give the  Raiders  the, 3-2, win.

Shippensburg outshot the Firebirds 21 to 13, with UDC freshman goal keeper Kyle Heatherington (Business- Collingwood, Ontario Canada) facing 12 shots on goal and making 8 saves. Raider's goal keeper sophomore Clay Sale faced 6 shots on goal and made 4 saves.

UDC (3-5-1) will return to the field on October 1, at home, hosting California University of Pennsylvania, at 12 noon.
