UDC Soccer Falls to California PA, 1-0

Washington, DC: October 1, 2010—The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Soccer Team fell to the University of California Pennsylvania Vulcans, 1-0, today at the UDC Soccer Field in Washington, DC. Chris Moehler kicked the winning goal in the 74th minute of the match, with an assist from Mike Kalas.

The match was a display of defensive prowess as the match remained scoreless until the 74th minute of play. UDC junior goal keeper Rommel Fuentes (Criminal Justice- Reston, VA) faced 16 California shots, 9 of which were on goal, including the match winner. Fuentes made 8 saves during the match. UDC was only able to get off 4 shots, two on goal as California goal keeper Derek Yobbi made 2 saves.

 UDC was called for 13 fouls to California's 3. The foul called on UDC player freshman defender Henry Reyes, Jr., in the 33rd minute was controversial, resulting in him receiving a red card and automatically being ejected from the match.

 UDC (3-6-1) returns to action on October 3, against West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
