UDC Defeats George Washington, 1-0, in Soccer

Washington, DC: September 25, 2010-- Freshman defender/ mid-fielder Wilfredo Roque (Lorton, VA) made a corner kick into the near post  24 minutes into the match to give the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Soccer Team a, 1-0, victory over the George Washington University Colonials  in an exciting contest at the GWU Soccer Field in northwest Washington, today.  It was Rogue's first goal of the season that gave UDC their very  first win over Division 1 George Washington.

There were many tough defensive stands as Firebirds goal keeper Kyle Heatherington(Business- Collingwood, Ontario Canada)  faced 22 shots and made 6 saves to keep the Colonials off the score board.  The Colonial goal keeper Erik Haug faced 8 shots and made 2 saves, but gave up the one goal which produced the Firebirds win. The Colonials took 18 corner kicks to the Firebird's 1, while the Firebirds  were called for 14 fouls to the Colonial's 8.

UDC(3-4-1)  will return to the field on September 29, against Shippensburg University. The match will be played in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
