Washington Adventist Escapes with,2-1, Overtime Win Over UDC

Takoma Park, MD: October 7, 2010-- Sophomore forward Adriel Garcia (Physical Education-Centro Indaiatuba, Brazil) scored a goal in the 70th minute of the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds soccer match against the Washington Adventist University Shock tonight, in Takoma Park, Maryland.

That goal knotted the match at 1, and the teams  used tough defensive strategies to carry the match into overtime. However, 105 minutes into overtime, the Shock's Lesley Elmeus used a kick off a foul and sent the ball high and left to setup  Erik Gutierrez for a header to score the winning goal for Adventist and avenge a loss to the Firebirds earlier in the season.

Mugniu Almaroof scored the first Adventist goal in the 5oth minute to give them the lead. The Shock's goal keeper Efren Gutierrez made 4 saves to prevent the Firebirds from winning the match, in spite of UDC's 17 shot  (10 on goal) effort. UDC goal keeper Kyle Heatherington(Business-Collingwood, Ontario Canada) faced 19 shots (10 on goal) in minimizing the Shock scoring, allowing only two balls past him.

UDC fell to 3-7-1 with this loss, while Adventist improved to 7-6-0. The Firebirds travel to Lock Haven, Pennsylvania on October 9, to play the Lock Haven University Vulcans.
