Firebirds Get Solid Soccer Win Over Lincoln, 5-1

 Lincoln, PA: October 27, 2010- Five different players on the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Soccer Team scored goals this afternoon, to give them a, 5-1, win over the Lincoln University Lions in Lincoln, Pennsylvania. It was the Firebirds second defeat of the Lions this season.

UDC scoring got underway in the 14th minute when sophomore forward Adriel Garcia (Physical Education-Brazil) scored an unassisted goal. Freshman forward Desean Ragland (Baltimore, MD) followed with another unassisted goal, from a deflected pass, in the 44th minute.

 

In the 66th minute, freshman mid-fielder Tansu Korkmaz (Business-Istanbul, Turkey) took a pass from Garcia to score the 3rd Firebird goal of the day.  Sophomore defender/mid-fielder Mario Banegas (Business- Frederick, MD), with assist from Garcia scored the Firebirds' 4th goal in the 83rd minute.

 Senior defender/mid-fielder Samer Shehadeh (Criminal Justice-Falls Church, VA) closed out the day's scoring with a goal in the 90th minute, as the match ended, with an assist from freshman forward Kaine Moar (Mechanical Engineering-Ontario, Canada). Lincoln's lone goal was scored by Brian Matthews in the 4th minute of the match, with an assist from Adedotun Osho.

 UDC goal keeper freshman Kyle Heatherington (Business-Ontario, Canada) made 4 saves from 5 shots on goal, while Lincoln's goal keeper Andre Wilkinson faced 17 shots on goal and made 12 saves.

 UDC (4-12-1) will close out their regular season October 30, at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WVA.
