UDC Track & Field Have Good Showing at Morgan State Legacy

Baltimore, MD: April 16-17, 2010—The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Team performed well at the Morgan State University Legacy Track & Field Meet over the weekend, at Hughes Stadium & Field in Baltimore, Maryland.

Charlotte, NC: April 10, 2010—The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Track & Field Team competed in the Johnson C. Smith University’s Invitational Track & Field Meet in Charlotte, North Carolina, today. Solid performances came from the 4x400 meter relay team, which finished in third place in the event, with the time of 3:52.58.

Fairfax, VA: April 10, 2010—UDC sophomore Stacy Griffith (Fredericksburg, VA/Riverbend H.S.) led the Firebirds Track & Field Team at the George Mason University Spring Invitational in Fairfax, Virginia by taking 2nd place in the women high jump. The Track Team was split-up on Saturday, as some went to Charlotte, North Carolina to participate in the Johnson C. Smith University Invitational.

University of the District of Columbia Head Women’s Track & Field Coach Jasmine Rogers reports that the Team has achieved top 8 regional rankings in the six events for the first week of the rankings this season. In response to the rankings Rogers said, “ I am pleased with the overall progress that we are making. We are getting better and better each week.”

Daytona Beach, Fl : April 2-3, 2010—University of the District of Columbia Firebird Women’s Track & Field Sophomore Stacy Griffith (Fredericksburg, VA/Riverbend H.S.) won the women high jump with a distance of 1.60 meters at the Emery-Riddle University Spikes Track & Field Meet in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday, April 3, to lead the Firebirds at the Meet. Griffith led a field of 11 jumpers, including Firebird team mate, sophomore, Dicoda Waugh (Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew Senior High School for Girls), who finished in second place with the distance of 1.57 meters.

The University of the District of Columbia Women’s Track & Field Team finished in second place at the Virginia State University Invitational Track Meet in Petersburg, Virginia on Saturday. The Firebirds finished with an overall point score of 52.

Dicoda Waugh Leads UDC at William & Mary Tribe Invitational

Williamsburg, VA: March 20, 2010—Dicoda Waugh, led the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Women’s Track & Field Team in competition at the College of William & Mary Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Virginia today. Waugh, who is a junior track & field athlete from Kingston, Jamaica (St. Andrew), won the triple jump with a distance of 11.14 meters, in spite of the fact that she was injured prior to the jump.

Washington, DC—The University of the District of Columbia has named Jasmine Rogers as its new head coach for men’s & women’s cross-country and women’s track & field. Patricia Thomas, director of athletics at the University made the announcement stating, “Jasmine will be extremely effective progressing into coaching from her outstanding career as a scholar-athlete. I am proud to have her join the Firebird family."
