Stacy Griffith and Dicoda Waugh Lead Track & Field at Emery-Riddle Spike’s Classic

Daytona Beach, Fl : April 2-3, 2010—University of the District of Columbia Firebird Women’s Track & Field Sophomore Stacy Griffith (Fredericksburg, VA/Riverbend H.S.) won the women high jump with a distance of 1.60 meters, and team mate Dicoda Waugh won the triple jump at the Emery-Riddle University Spikes Track & Field Meet in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday, April 3, to lead the Firebirds at the Meet. Griffith led a field of 11 jumpers, including Dicoda Waugh( Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew Senior High School for Girls) won the triple jump event with a distance of 11.29 meters in a field of six.

Other top finishers for the Firebirds included the 4x400 meter relay “A” team, which had a 2nd place finish, with the time of 3:55.09, in a field of 7 teams. The UDC Team consisted of two-time All-American junior Saleena Green (Kingston, Jamaica/St. Andrew Senior High School for Girls), two-time All-American sophomore Kaneesha Hollis (Centreville, MD/North Caroline Senior High School), freshman Callister Jones (Fort Washington, MD/Oxon Hill Senior High School), and sophomore All-American Latoya Allen (Washington, DC/Dunbar Senior High School).

Green also gave a solid performance in the 200 meter run; finishing 4th with the time of 25.38, then added another by finishing 4th in the 400 meter run with the time of 57.99. She was followed in the 400 meter run by Hollis with a 5th place finish at 58.79 and Jones in 7th place at 59.39.

Competing in the 100 meter dash were Freshman Famatta Lewis (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson Senior High School), who came in 9th at 12.73, freshman Shemeia Barnes (Forrestville, MD/Upper Marlboro Senior High School), 11th (13.02), and All American Erica Nixon, 12th at 13.07. Sophomore Demia Franklin (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor Senior High School) finished 5th in the 400 meter run with the time of 1:08.33, then came back to finish the 800 meter run in 2:35.29.  Jones also competed in the 800 meter run, finishing 18th in 2:38.45.

 Finishing the 200 meter run were Nixon (26.57), Lewis (26.63), Barnes (26.72), Allen ( (27.02), and sophomore Jasmine Rich (Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro H.S.), who finished with the time of 28.45.

The Firebirds return to the oval on April 9, to compete in the Hampton University Invitational in Hampton, Virginia.
