BROOKVILLE, NY - Led by an exceptional effort from freshman Simone Grant, the University of the District of Columbia women's cross country team wrapped up its season with strong individual efforts at the East Coast Conference Championships, hosted by LIU Post.

SMYRNA, DE - With a new season's best 5K finish of 22:00, freshman Simone Grant led the University of the District of Columbia women's cross country team with a 13th place finish among 54 competitors at the Division I-dominated DSU Hornet Invitational.

Kimoy Mais led the Firebirds with a 5K finish of 25:47.

HUNT VALLEY, MD- On Friday afternoon the University of the District of Columbia women’s cross country team competed in the Towson University Cross Country Invitational. The Firebirds placed seventh out of the eight teams competing.

BROOKVILLE, NY - In a very large field of 184 competitors, the University of the District of Columbia women's cross country team was led by senior Callister Jones who helped the Firebirds finish 17th among the 20 teams that competed in the LIU Post Invitational on Saturday.

Senior Callister Jones, according to head coach Alton McKenzie, is the team's leader.

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – After capturing the 2011 East Coast Conference Championships, the LIU Post Men's and Women's Cross Country teams have been named the preseason favorites as voted upon by the league's coaches. Senior Hillary Mugun (Nandi Hills, Kenya) from University of the District of Columbia and sophomore Gladys Kimutai (Eldama Ravime, Kenya) from New York Institute of Technology are named the ECC Preseason Runners of the Year for their respective gender.

Rochelle Nelson (at right) is an experienced runner who should provide the Firebirds solid leadership in cross country and track.

Simone Grant has shown promise in multiple sprint events as well as the Long Jump and Triple Jump.
