Former 600M Bronx Champion Marlena Wright Signs With University of DC

WASHINGTON, DC – Marlena Wright, from Bronx, NY and Dewitt Clinton HS, has signed a National Letter of Intent to run cross country and indoor and outdoor track at the University of the District of Columbia.

"She will be a great addition to our core 400M runners, and I anticipate she will contribute greatly in the 200M and 400M events," head coach Alton McKenzie said.

Wright is a two-year Bronx Champion in the 600M event (2011, 2012) and was a state qualifier in that event as well. She was named an All-American her sophomore year as part of the No. 6 ranked 4x400M relay team in the country. She was also part of a 4x400M relay team that medaled at the State Championship in 2011 and one which won the Outdoor City Championship in 2012. Her team at Dewitt Clinton HS was undefeated and earned the Bronx Championship four years in a row in outdoor and indoor competition.

The Firebirds featured seven athletes on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-East Region Team this past spring, including the top two runners in the 400M event.

Wright aspires to be a journalist and as such, she will study Journalism at University of DC.
