District of Columbia Track & Field Signs Former Indoor/Outdoor Manhattan Borough Champion

WASHINGTON, DC – Jerily Benjamin, an accomplished sprinter at Philip Randolph High School and York College (NY), has signed a National Letter of Intent to run cross country and indoor and outdoor track at the University of the District of Columbia.

"Jerily is a great addition to our spring core and is expected to make an immediate impact in the 400M," head coach Alton McKenzie said. "She has shown a lot of promise in high school and running open last year, so I'm expecting her to be a contributor in the 200M and 400M for the 2012-13 season."

Benjamin competed in the 200M, 300M and 400M events in high school. In 2010 she was the Indoor 300M Manhattan Borough Champion and the Outdoor 400M Manhattan Borough Champion.

The Firebirds featured seven athletes on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-East Region Team this past spring, including the top two runners in the 400M event.

A member of her high school's National Honor Society, Benjamin hopes to one day work in the health industry but has not yet declared a major at University of DC.
