Johnstown, PA: October 26, 2006-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds and the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown Mountain Cats played to a 1-1 overtime tie tonight. The Firebirds scored first in the match when senior Omar Ibrahim(Niamey, Nigeria) took a pass from freshman Kendall Penny (Gasparillo, Trinidad) and sent the ball into the net at the 11 minute mark. Chris Hawkins scored UPJ's goal on a penalty kick in the 68th minute.

TAKOMA PARK, MD: September 20, 2006—The change in venue for the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds ( 2-7) did not stop them getting their second win of the 2006 season, defeating Columbia Union College Pioneers today, 2-1, in Takoma Park, Maryland. Although the match was officially listed as a home match for the Firebirds, on-going renovations to the UDC Soccer Field prevented them from playing there, and Columbia Union consented to playing at their home field in Maryland.

The Firebirds were hoping to return home from their weekend long road trip with their second win of the season today, but fell short of that goal.

The Firebirds continue to suffer offensively, taking fewer shot attempts than their opponents and failing to score goals.

Largo, MD: August 30, 2006— The Shippensburg University Raiders shutout the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia, 1-0, in men’s soccer action this evening in a match played in Largo, Maryland. After two periods of regulation time, neither of the teams could muster a goal, but in the second minute of double overtime, Shippensburg’s Brad Jandil took a pass from Kevin Freeman and kicked the ball over the goal line, into the net, to win the match and take home their second win of the season.

It was the third straight loss for the Firebirds, who continue to struggle as they blend as a new team.

With the season being very young, and the Firebirds having a mostly new team that is just beginning to gel, the one point loss does offer hope for the future.

Stroudsburg, PA: August 25, 2006—The University of the District of Columbia Men’s Soccer Team lost its season opener to the East Stroudsburg University Warriors 0-4 this afternoon in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Playing under new Head Coach Jim Bell, the Firebirds struggled through the 90-minute match, unable to get the ball past the tough Warrior defense and across the goal line.
