Men's Soccer Defeats Columbia Union 2-1

TAKOMA PARK, MD: September 20, 2006—The change in venue for the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds ( 2-7) did not stop them getting their second win of the 2006 season, defeating Columbia Union College Pioneers today, 2-1, in Takoma Park, Maryland. Although the match was officially listed as a home match for the Firebirds, on-going renovations to the UDC Soccer Field prevented them from playing there, and Columbia Union consented to playing at their home field in Maryland.

Unfortunately, home field advantage didn’t help the Pioneers as they were able only to send 9 shots towards the goal to UDC’s 25. The Firebirds scored their first goal 22 minutes into the match when G. Oliver Kyemtore (sophomore-Burkina/Faso) sent the ball into the net unassisted.  Terrence Alleyne (Port Fortin, Trinidad) scored UDC’s second goal on a penalty kick at 84 minutes into the match. Columbia Union’s lone goal was scored at 3 minutes, on a penalty kick by Se Eun Park.

UDC’s next opponent will be Mercy College on Saturday, September 23, in a match that was previously postponed. The site will be announced later.
