UDC Falls to NYIT, 3-1, In Men’s Soccer Match

OLD WESTBURY, NY: September 18, 2006—The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men’s Soccer Team fell to the New York Institute of Technology Bears, 3-1, this afternoon in Old Westbury, New York. The Firebirds were hoping to return home from their weekend long road trip with their second win of the season today, but fell short of that goal.

NYIT scored all of their goals in the second half, with the first by Takuma Komiya on a header off cross assist from Christopher Maye in the 53rd minute. Their second goal came in the 54th minute when Komiya beat UDC goalie Boyan Yankulov off a pass into the box. Goal three came when Thierno Souare scored off a loose ball in the box in the 59th minute. UDC’s sole score came on a penalty kick by Terrence Alleyne in the 72nd minute.

NYIT out shot UDC 12-6; with Boyan Yankulov making 2 saves.

The Firebirds, now 1-7 for the season, will face Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland on Wednesday, September 20.
