Mercy College Hands UDC 2nd Straight Defeat

West Chester, PA: August 26, 2006— The Mercy College Flyers handed the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds their second straight defeat of the 2006 season, by the score of 1-2, this afternoon during the West Chester Invitational in Pennsylvania. With the season being very young, and the Firebirds having a mostly new team that is just beginning to gel, the one point loss does offer hope for the future.

Mercy scored their first goal when Mike Frimpong-Manso took a straight shot into the net unassisted in the 23rd minute. UDC’s lone goal came in the 30th minute when Omar Ibrahim took a pass from Penny Kendall. Mercy’s second goal was scored in the 43rd minute when Mike Frimpong-Manso kicked the ball into the net unassisted.

UDC goalkeeper Boyan Yankulov had 8 saves during the match when Mercy sent 10 shots toward the net. UDC managed to take 5 shots, with Mercy’s goal keeper Nicholas Evans making 4 saves.

UDC, now 0-2, will play their next match on Sunday, August 27th, in the West Chester Invitational in Pennsylvania.
