UDC Men's Soccer Team Drops Season Opener 0-4 to E.Stroudsburg

E. Stroudsburg, PA: August 25, 2006—The University of the District of Columbia Men’s Soccer Team lost its season opener to the East Stroudsburg University Warriors 0-4 this afternoon in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Playing under new Head Coach Jim Bell, the Firebirds struggled through the 90-minute match, unable to get the ball past the tough Warrior defense and across the goal line.

The Firebirds were only able to take 2 shots on goal (1 each period) during the entire match, while the Warriors took 21 (10 in the first and 11 in the second period). UDC goalie Boyan Yankulov had 12 saves to Warrior goalie Dan Frick’s 2.

Ryan Love scored East Stroudsburg’s first goal on an assist from Jason Shegda in the 45th minute. Their second goal came in 53rd minute, again, by Love with another assist from Shegda. Roshane Ellison scored the 3rd Warrior goal at the 64-minute mark with an assist from Ryan Love. East Stroudsburg’s last goal came in the 76th minute when Shane McFarlane scored, unassisted.

UDC will see their next action on Saturday, August 26, at against Mercy College in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
