Washington, DC – On Friday, February 24th, student-athletes at the University of the District of Columbia were given the pleasure of listening to a guest lecture by Gary Hutchinson, Commercial Director of Sunderland Football Club in England. Mr. Hutchinson transparently discussed all elements of his position, from the business side of revenue generation through the football club as well as the opportunities provided by the newly reconstructed facility, to the on-and-off field development of the team as a Premier League product both nationally and internationally.

Washington, DC - The University of the District of Columbia Men’s Soccer program has completed a successful 2010-2011 campaign. The team finished with an 8-5-4 record, a dramatic turnaround from the 4-13-1 record in 2009. The season officially concluded Thursday, October 27th, when the Firebirds traveled to Sparkill, NY to take on St. Thomas Aquinas. The Men's Soccer Team completed a 17-game schedule against some of the stronger teams in the East Region.

Sparkhill, NY - The District of Columbia Men’s Soccer Team dropped a road game to future East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas, but they close out the season 8-5-4, a vast improvement from the 2010 season. With the win St. Thomas Aquinas advances to 10-2-4 on the year.

Washington, DC— The UDC Men’s Soccer and Volleyball Teams both hosted events to help raise money for the Susan G. Komen and Sideout Foundation. The entire month of October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As a whole, all of the UDC Athletic programs raised money, with all of the proceeds going to the breast cancer awareness foundations.

Washington, DC – The University of the District of Columbia Men’s Soccer Team ended the home slate today with a 0-0 tie against Seton Hill University. The Firebirds outshot the Griffins 20-5, but despite the offensive imbalance, the score remained knotted up after two overtimes. The Firebirds sit at 8-4-4 with one road game remaining, while the Griffins remain at 5-10-2.

Washington DC – The UDC Soccer Team hosted a youth day on Saturday. The event was a tremendous success as over 20 area high school and middle school soccer players came to the UDC Soccer Field to participate.

Washington,DC - UDC Men’s soccer started the match off quickly and aggressively with two first half goals, then held on for a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh-Johnstown University Mountain Cats at the UDC soccer field today. It was Senior Day for center back Nana Bamfo (Upper Marlboro, MD- Largo HS), the lone senior on this year’s team. The Firebirds are now 8-4-3 for the year with two games remaining in this bounce-back season under first year coach Matt Thompson.

UDC Men’s Soccer battled through bad weather and a sluggish start today against Millersville University, but they were unable to hold on for the win. The Marauders outlasted the Firebirds winning on a penalty kick goal from Ethan Daubert with 1:33 remaining in the game. The Firebirds fall to 7-4-3 on the year while the Marauders advance to 8-4-1.

Takoma Park, MD - The UDC Men’s Soccer Program continues to improve as the season progresses, and tonight’s 1-0 win over Washington Adventist was another example of this. Ben Diaz tallied the game winner at the 52:54 mark, and the Firebirds held on to win 1-0. The Firebirds advance to 7-3-3 on the year while the Washington Adventist Shock fall to 3-9-1.

East Stroudsburg, PA – UDC captain forward Bakary Coulibaly (Hyattsville, MD/ Mali - La Lumiere HS) continued his scoring surge as the Firebirds ended the game in a 1-1 tie after two overtimes. It is the fourth game of the year that the Firebirds have taken into double overtime. The game tying goal by Coulibaly is his third of the year, scoring a goal in each of the last three games. The Firebirds sit at 6-3-3 on the year while the Warriors record lies at 4-6-3.

Washington, DC – UDC Men’s Soccer pulled out another win at home today as the Firebirds downed the Golden Rams 2-1. With the win the Firebirds improved to 3-0-1 at home and 6-3-1 overall. With the loss the Golden Rams drop to 2-6-2 on the year.

Washington, DC – The UDC Men’s Soccer Team was resilient today amidst terrible weather conditions once again and a feisty opponent. Despite a 1-7 record coming into the contest, the Concord Mountain Lions battles hard, but at the end of the day the athleticism and determination of the Firebirds proved to be too much to handle. UDC pulled off the win 1-0 and advances to a 5-3-1 record on the year, eclipsing last year’s win total with many games still to play on the season.

Dobbs Ferry, NY – The UDC Men’s Soccer Team traveled to Dobbs Ferry, to take on Mercy College. The second game in 3 days proved to be too much for the Firebirds, as the Mavericks pulled out a commanding 3-0 win. Mercy improves to 5-1-1 with the win, while UDC drops to 4-3-1.
