Firebirds Sweep ECC Weekly Awards

Washington, D.C. - The University of the District of Columbia's Iyanna Jackson and Zoe Shaw have been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week following their standout performances at the VMI Winter Relays. Emmanuela Katou Kouami also earned a spot on the Honor Roll.

Senior sprinter Iyanna Jackson had a historic meet, recording the fastest 60m times in the ECC this season. In the preliminaries, she ran an NCAA provisional time of 7.63 seconds, breaking the UDC school record in the event. That time also ranks second in the NCAA East Region. She followed that up with a 7.68-second performance in the finals, placing second overall in a field of 34 competitors. Jackson also competed in the 200m, clocking 26.33 seconds.

Junior Zoe Shaw recorded a season-best mark of 11.62m in the Triple jump, finishing second in a field of 11. Her jump now stands as the best in the ECC this season and ranks second in the NCAA East Region. Shaw also impressed in the long jump, finishing fourth with a leap of 5.20m, which currently ranks sixth in the ECC.

Kouami hit another school record and ECC-best mark in the weight throw with a mark of 15.90m to place fourth out of 27 at the VMI Winter Relays. This mark is good for third in the East Region. She also placed 10th out of 31 in the shot put with a mark of 10.78m
