UDC Claims First Place as Emmanuela Kouami-Katou Sets New School Record
Winchester, Va- The University of the District of Columbia women's track and field team dominated the competition at the Kaye & JJ Invitational, earning first place overall with 133 points and celebrating a historic performance by Emmanuela Katou Kouami, who set a new school record in the weight throw with a mark of 15.08m.
Meet Highlights
- 4x200m Relay: The team of Ayesha Jarrett, Janel Baxter, Yalix Lina and Mariela Hernandez finished first with a time of 1:49.79.
- 60m Dash Finals:
- 1st Place: Iyanna Jackson (7.88)
- 2nd Place: Kayla Cooper (7.89). Cooper had the fastest time of the day in the prelims where she ran 7.81s.
- 3rd Place: Janel Baxter (7.93)
- 60m Hurdles Finals: Kayleigh Shelton claimed first place with a time of 9.49.
- 200m Dash Finals:
- 1st Place: Kayla Cooper (26.33)
- 2nd Place: Tukey Francis (27.35)
- 3rd Place: Iyanna Jackson (27.38)
- Weight Throw: Emmanuela Kouami-Katou took first place with a throw of 15.08m
- Shot Put: Kouami-Katou also earned second place with a season best throw of 10.79m.
- High Jump: Zoe Shaw secured second place, clearing a season best 1.60m
The Firebirds are back in action next Saturday, traveling to New York to compete in the HBCU Classic.
