Firebirds Cruise Past Bobcats in Shutout Victory
WASHINGTON, D.C.- The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team put on a stellar performance, sweeping Frostburg State University 7-0 to improve their season record to 9-4. The Firebirds won the doubles point and every singles contest.
UDC started the match with commanding doubles play, securing the point with a shutout win at No.2:
- Zelentsova/Parn defeated Kush/Pintar (FSU) 6-3
- Bahamon Lopez/Bastin overpowered Troxell/Castejon (FSU) 6-0
- Benjelloun/Zmukic won by default
The Firebirds continued their momentum into singles, displaying a mix of composure and intensity to clinch the win:
- Desire Parn fought off a tough challenge from Alyssa Kush (FSU) to win 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the match.
- Polina Zelentsova showcased resilience in a tiebreaker victory over Patricia Castejon (FSU) 6-4, 1-6, 1-0(5).
- CĂ©lia Bastin battled through a close first set before dominating the second, defeating Lorena Pintar (FSU) 7-6(5), 6-1.
- Claudia Bahamon Lopez controlled her match, earning a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ella Troxell (FSU).
- Lina Benjelloun breezed past Femke Hofkamp (FSU) 6-1, 6-0 with a dominant performance.
- Nadja Zmukic won by default, securing the sweep.
UDC (9-4, 4-2 ECC) will head to Adelphi University on Sunday the 23rd.
