UDC Women's Tennis Triumphs 4-3 Over Millersville University
Washington, D.C. -The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team continued their unbeaten streak with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Millersville University on Wednesday. In a tightly contested match, the Firebirds pulled through in singles play to claim their third win of the season and improve to 3-0 overall.
Doubles:
- UDC's top doubles team of Célia Bastin and Polina Zelentsova set the tone for the day with a commanding 6-1 win over Millersville's Soo and Abramowitz at the No. 1 doubles spot.
- Millersville's Hayes and Consigliere responded by defeating Claudia Bahamon Lopez and Lina Benjelloun 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, leaving the doubles point to be decided.
- UDC wdefaulted at the No. 3 doubles spot, giving Millersville the doubles point.
Singles:
- Polina Zelentsova delivered a standout performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Hui Jen Soo 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to secure a crucial point for UDC.
- Célia Bastin continued her strong play with a hard-fought 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Chloe Abramowitz at No. 2 singles.
- Claudia Bahamon Lopez cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lauren Hayes at No. 3 singles.
- Lina Benjelloun completed a comeback at No. 4 singles, defeating Lucia Consigliere 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the decisive fourth point for the Firebirds.
- Millersville's Sophie Lanius edged out Nadja Zmukic in a marathon match at No. 5 singles, winning 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(7).
- UDC defaulted at No. 6 singles, giving Millersville a third point.
