DOBBS FERRY, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's women's lacrosse team fell to No.11 Mercy College 20-2, in their first conference meet-up of the season. The Firebirds fell to 0-7, 0-1 in conference play while the Mavericks improved to 6-2, 1-0 in the league.
Victoria Majano and Anna Schamens scored the Firebird's two goals, both of which came in the second half. Schamens also picked up the only assist for UDC.
Plagued by turnovers the Firebirds had eight shots total compared to Mercy's 32. The Mavericks got off to a 15-0 run before the Firebirds were able to sink one behind the net in the third quarter.
Next up, UDC (0-7, 0-1 ECC) will host Molloy College in another round of conference play on Saturday, April 1st. The game will be live-streamed on the ECC network and is set to begin at 12:00 pm.
