Strong First and Third Quarters Not Enough as the Firebirds Fall to the Senators

ELKINS W, VA- The University of the District of Columbia's women's lacrosse team fell on the road to Davis and Elkins 22-12. The Firebirds fell to 0-6 on the season and the Senators improved to 1-3.

Lauryn Lopez and Anna Schamens led the firebird offense, with Lopez netting a team and season-high five goals and three assists. Schamens was right behind with four goals, three assists, a game-high 12 ground balls and two caused turnovers. Joi Scruggs also posted a season-high two goals.

Schamens scored the first two goals of the game followed by an unassisted goal from Scruggs to put the Firebirds up 3-2 in the first five minutes of play. The Senators responded taking a one-point lead going into the second quarter, which they extended to six before the half-time break.

The Firebirds found a second wind in the third quarter with five different players finding their way onto the scoreboard, but the deficit was too great as the Senators pulled away to their first victory of the season.
