
UDC Women’s Basketball Drops Road Match to Virginia State, 85-71
Petersburg, VA - The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team fell to Virginia State University 85-71 on Sunday afternoon at the Multipurpose Center. Despite a standout performance from Laci Johnson, who led all scorers with 22 points, the Firebirds were unable to overcome a slow start and a plague of turnovers..
Virginia State set the tone early, outscoring UDC 43-20 in the first half. While the Firebirds mounted a strong fourth-quarter comeback, scoring 38 points, it was not enough to close the gap.
UDC's Laci Johnson led the charge with 22 points and 4 rebounds, while Nia Ford contributed 12 points and 7 rebounds. Off the bench, Nhaikyia Smith and Kensley Benjamin scored 11 and 6 points respectively.
Virginia State's Carmen Kweti and Amesha Miller dominated in the paint, combining for 35 points and 19 rebounds, helping secure the victory for the Trojans.
