Firebirds Defeated by Queens in East Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Semifinals
FLUSHING, NY – The No. 2 seeded University of the District of Columbia men's tennis team was defeated, 5-0 by No. 3 seed and tournament host Queens College in the East Coast Conference Tournament Semifinals on Friday afternoon.
Due to an insufficient lineup, the Firebirds (8-7) were forced to forfeit matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. UDC was without its No. 2 singles player, senior Ike Kiro, which meant its No. 3-through-6 singles players had to play up a spot.
The Knights (12-7) snapped a three-match losing streak and avenged a 6-3 loss at UDC in the regular season on April 18th as they won the top two doubles matches and the No. 2 and No. 5 singles matches to claim victory. They will advance to the finals where they will face off against No. 1 seed NYIT tomorrow.
The Firebirds, ranked No. 6 in the East Region, will await word on if they receive an at-large big to the NCAA East Regional Tournament.
