Highly Ranked Division II East Region Tennis Teams Will Collide; UDC Defeats Dowling in ECC Tournament

April 20, 2011: Queens Village, NY- The University of the District of Columbia Men's Tennis Team defeated Dowling College, 6-3 in the semi-finals of the East Coast Conference Championships today at the Alley Pond Tennis Center in Queens Village, NY. This will set up a match of the #2 team in the East Region, Queens College, and the #4 ranked squad, the UDC Firebirds. This match will take place at the Tennis Center on Thursday morning at 10:30am.

The upset of the day took place in the #1 doubles match when Eduardo Ribeiro and Victor Kim of Dowling College beat UDC #1 Captain and Jr., Tomas Gajdusek ( Finance Major-Prague,Czech Republic)and Jr. Bruno Reich (Business Mgmt. Major-Rio de Janeiro,Brazil), 9-8.

Coach Dickie Mahaffey commented on the match: " We were down 1-3... I am proud of these guys. We look forward to our rematch with Queens Thursday morning." Queens College, which holds a #26 Division II National Ranking with the ITA, defeated the Firebirds on April 16th at Queens, 8-1. This was UDC's only ECC loss of the season.
