Washington, D.C. — The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Jefferson University on Wednesday afternoon at UDC Field. Despite a strong start and a first-half equalizer by Santiago Gordillo Martinez, the Firebirds were unable to overcome Jefferson's attacking pressure.
Jefferson opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Mateo Infante found the back of the net, assisted by Kai Mangahas, putting the visitors ahead 1-0. UDC quickly responded with a goal by Santiago Gordillo Martinez in the 22nd minute, assisted by Isaiah Daniel, leveling the score at 1-1.
However, Jefferson regained the lead just before halftime, with Diego Guzman scoring in the 44th minute, assisted by TJ Hibsman, giving Jefferson a 2-1 advantage at the break.
The final blow came in the second half, as Gabe Paz netted an unassisted goal in the 76th minute to seal the 3-1 victory for Jefferson.
