Pericet's Brace Propels Firebirds to Victory Over Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, DE- The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team shutout Goldey-Beacom 2-0, en route to their first win of the season, Sunday evening at Banning Park. The Firebirds improve to 1-0-1 on the season while the Lightning fall to 0-2.

UDC's defense was rock solid, anchored by freshman goalkeeper Giovanni Llamas, who recorded three crucial saves to keep a clean sheet throughout the game. Goldey-Beacom tried to break through the UDC defense, but their efforts were thwarted time and time again.

Scoring Summary:

  • 3:12 - Goal by Ignacio Pericet: The Firebirds got off to a flying start when Ignacio Pericet scored the opening goal in the 4th minute, provided by  well-placed assist by Ignacio Lopez to put UDC ahead 1-0.

  • 24:50 - Goal by Ignacio Pericet: Pericet doubled the lead in the 25th minute with his second goal of the match, assisted by Ignacio Lopez and Brandon Johnson. This goal marked Pericet's second of the season and secured the Firebirds' 2-0 advantage, which they maintained until the final whistle.

Despite Goldey-Beacom's attempts to claw back into the game, the UDC defense remained resolute.

  • The defensive line, led by goalkeeper Giovanni Llamas, ensured Goldey-Beacom could not find the back of the net.
