GERMANTOWN, MD- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against conference foe, Molloy University, Sunday evening at the Maryland SoccerPlex Stadium. The Firebirds move to 0-0-2 in conference play while the Lions move to 0-1-1.
Axel Gamez scored the Firebirds lone goal of the game which was also the equalizer that forced the game to end in a draw. Goalkeeper Sergio Becerra made a game-high two saves to hold the Lions to just one goal on the day.
The first half ended in a 0-0 score, with both teams posting four shots. The visiting Lions would strike first however, with a goal scored eight minutes into the second half. Gamez was able to answer nine minutes later scoring an unassisted goal that tied the game up 1-1. Both teams were held scoreless the rest of the game, resulting in a draw.
Next up, UDC (2-3-3, 0-0-2 ECC) will head to St Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday. The game is slated to begin at 3:00 pm.
