Firebirds fall to Wilmington in overtime 0-1

New Castle, DE- The University of the District of Columbia battled Wilmington in what turned out to be an intense match up, but eventually fell 1-0 in overtime. 

The Wildcats out shot the Firebirds 13-5, with 5 of those shots being on goal. Freshman standout Goalkeeper Javier Abadia, who played all 99:22 minutes of game time, was able to save 4 of out those 5 shots. 

It was an intense and physical game from start to finish as the Firebirds totaled six yellow cards, which doubled the Wildcats 3. UDC found themselves playing on defense throughout most of the game but were able to stop Wilmington from scoring, which sent them into overtime. 

A little over five minutes into O-T, Freshman Center Midfielder Zouhir Warid was able to take the first shot, which went a little too high. This shot proved to be the last chance for the Firebirds as Wilmington was able to take two back to back shots, one of which made its way into the goal, bringing the score 1-0 and ending the game. 

The Firebirds (1-1) will be heading to Pennsylvania on Wednesday September the 11th to face off against Division II foe, Lock Haven University.
