Firebirds Edge Out Knights in Thrilling 63-61 Victory

Flushing, N.Y.- the University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team secured a hard-fought 63-61 win against Queens College in an East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup at Fitzgerald Gymnasium on Wednesday evening. The Firebirds break a six-game losing streak, picking up an important conference win.

Trailing at halftime, the Firebirds used a strong second-half surge to outscore the Knights 37-28 and clinch the victory. David Pope led the charge for UDC with a game-high 17 points, including three crucial three-pointers. Khyrie Staten added 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Justin Minor dominated the glass with 15 rebounds and contributed 7 points.

The Firebirds defense held the Knights scoreless in the final three minutes of the game. With 1:27 remaining in regulation Stanley Harley tipped in a layup to tie the score at 61. Tevin Curtis sealed the deal with two made free throws.
