Firebirds Shine at NSU Invitational
Norfolk, VA- The University of the District of Columbia Women's Track & Field team continued to make waves on the track and in the field this weekend, turning in an impressive array of performances highlighted by personal bests and a school record.
In the field events, Emmanuela Katou Kouami threw a personal best mark of 49.31m (161-09) in the hammer throw, claiming second place and breaking her own school record by over 3 meters. She also competed in the discus, finishing 9th. Zoe Shaw took third in the triple jump (11.55m), and finished 4th in high jump (1.61m), both of which are season bests.
Samantha Morrison and Yalix Lina delivered strong races in the 400m hurdles, placing 3rd and 4th with season best times of 1:07.64 and 1:09.15, respectively. Lina also ran a personal-best 1:01.18 in the open 400m. Ayesha Jarrett clocked in at 1:00.48 to lead UDC with a season best time in the 400m.
On the sprint side, Janel Baxter clocked 26.28s in the 200m to finish 12th, while Kyndra Hines and Kayleigh Shelton both delivered strong races for the Firebirds against a competitive field in the 100m hurdles. Hines clocked 14.64s and Shelton wasn't far behind, posting a 14.90s.
The quartet of Morrison, Jarrett, Kayla Cooper and Iyanna Jackson closed out the meet winning th 4x400m relay with a season best time of 4:00.45.
The Firebirds are back in action on April 18th at Morgan State University.
