Firebirds Sweep Dominican University 7-0 to Remain Undefeated
Orangeburg, N.Y.-The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team continued their perfect season with a 7-0 sweep over Dominican University on Saturday. With a dominant display in both singles and doubles, the Firebirds improved their season record to 5-0 overall.
Doubles:
- The top doubles team of Desire Parn and Polina Zelentsova set the tone with a solid 6-2 victory over Dominican's Sarjveladze and O'Brien.
- Lina Benjelloun and Nadja Zmukic cruised to a 6-0 win over Fouts and Lopez at the No. 2 doubles spot, while UDC secured the No. 3 doubles point by default.
Singles:
- In singles action, Desire Parn overcame a first-set loss to defeat Lia Sarjveladze 3-6, 6-1, 1-0(8) in a tough No. 1 singles match.
- Polina Zelentsova dominated at No. 2 singles with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kyla Fouts.
- Claudia Bahamon Lopez continued the Firebirds' momentum with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Ava O'Brien at No. 3 singles.
- Célia Bastin completed a perfect match at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 against Olivia Lopez.
- UDC also claimed victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles by default.
