UDC Women’s Tennis Defeats Molloy University 6-1 to Stay Undefeated
Oceanside, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team continued their undefeated streak with a dominant 6-1 victory over Molloy University on Thursday. The Firebirds put together an impressive performance in both singles and doubles, improving their season record to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play.
Doubles:
- UDC swept all three doubles matches, starting with a 6-0 win by the duo of Lina Benjelloun and Nadja Zmukic over Molloy's Fartushynska/Fortaleza in the No. 3 spot.
- Claudia Bahamon Lopez and Célia Bastin followed up with a convincing 6-1 victory over Bonilla/Gunnip in the No. 2 doubles match to clinch the doubles point.
- Desire Parn and Polina Zelentsova closed out doubles play with a 6-3 win against Molloy's top pair Baughman Saunders/Sanchez.
Singles:
- In singles, UDC showed their strength across the board, winning five of the six matches.
- Polina Zelentsova earned a commanding 6-2, 6-0 victory over Erin Sanchez at No. 2 singles.
- Claudia Bahamon Lopez defeated Izabella Fortaleza 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Célia Bastin blanked Alice Fartushynska 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
- Lina Benjelloun continued the momentum with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Ashley Bonilla at No. 5 singles.
- Nadja Zmukic put in a dominant performance at No. 6 singles, defeating Taylor Gunnip 6-0, 6-1.
- Molloy's only point came from the No. 1 singles match, where Elena Baughman Saunders defeated UDC's top player Desire Parn 6-3, 6-4.
