Firebirds Sweep Saints 7-0

BUFFALO, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team continued their winning start to the season with a commanding 7-0 victory over D'Youville University in their latest East Coast Conference matchup. The Firebirds improved their season and ECC record to 2-0.

Doubles Play:

• The pair of Desire Parn and Polina Zelentsova battled to a thrilling 7-6(4) win over Zhdanok/Randjelovic (DYU) in the top doubles spot to complete the doubles sweep.
• Claudia Bahamon Lopez and Célia Bastin cruised to a 6-1 victory against Kashtelian/Campisi.
• Lina Benjelloun and Nadja Zmukic secured the doubles point with a dominant 6-1 win over Ermina/Prokopenko.

Singles Play:

• Desire Parn led the charge in singles, defeating Kseniya Zhdanok in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 at the No.1 position to clinch the match.
• Polina Zelentsova showcased her fighting spirit in a three-set thriller, overcoming Mina Randjelovic 3-6, 7-6(3), 1-0(5) at No.2.
• Claudia Bahamon Lopez mounted a strong comeback in her singles match, winning 1-6, 6-3, 1-0(7) against Yuliia Kashtelian at No.3.
• Célia Bastin and Nadja Zmukic delivered flawless performances, winning their matches 6-0, 6-0 at No.4 and 6.
• Lina Benjelloun had a solid 6-1, 6-1 victory over Paola Ermina at No.5.

UDC (2-0, 2-0 ECC) will head back home for a two game home stand, starting with Frostburg University on Wednesday fternoon. The match is slated to begin at 2:00 pm.
