
UDC Women's Tennis Opens Season with Strong Showing at the ITA Tournament
FLUSHING, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia women's tennis team delivered strong performances at the ITA East Regional Tournament, with several standout results in both singles and doubles play.
Claudia Bahamon Lopez and Celia Bastin advanced past Bergmann/Taszymowicz (Queens) 8-5 in the RD32 and continued their winning form by defeating the sixth-seeded duo Umekuni/Togores (New Haven) 8-5 in the RD16. They went on to fall to Knispel/Mader (Assumption), 8-2 in the Quarterfinals.
The duo of Desire Parn and Polina Zelentsova also impressed, securing an 8-4 victory over ECC foes Fawzy/Saito (Queens) in the RD32 and following up with another win against Khandoji Santosh/Kushi (Wilmington) 8-3 in the RD16. Their run came to an end in the quarterfinals after falling to the third-seeded pair Carreras/Ferrarini (New Haven), by a score of 8-2.
In singles, Desire Parn continued her dominance, battling through a tight RD32 match to defeat Molly Carlberg (Wilmington) 7-6(4), 2-6, 1-0(9). Parn advanced to the RD16 and easily defeated Ming Fu Chen (Wilmington) 6-1, 6-3. Parn's impressive run came to an end in the quarterfinals, where she was defeated by Karim Carreras (New Haven), 6-1, 6-3.
Day 1
UDC will head to Upstate N.Y. next weekend for a pair of Conference match ups against Daemen University and D'Youville University.
