WILMINGTON, DEL.- The University of the District of Columbia's women's tennis team saw their season come to a close, after falling to the No.1 seed, Wilmington (Del.), Tuesday afternoon at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
The Firebirds dropped the doubles point heading into singles play down 0-1. The Wildcats won the first singles point at No.6 before Sofia Bellucco picked up a win at No.4, defeating her opponent in two straight sets (6-2, 7-5).
Wilmington went on to win the at No.5 and 3 to secure their ticket to the NCAA DII Sweet Sixteen.
"While disappointed with our loss in the National Championships Regional Rounds, I'm very proud of what our team was able to accomplish this season," said Head Coach Mahaffey. "The team trained and competed hard throughout the season, and I commend them for that."
