Buffalo, NY – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday morning, falling to D'Youville College, 25-2, at Dobson Field.
Despite the scoreline, the Firebirds showed heart throughout the contest. Grace Hall put UDC on the board midway through the third quarter with a free-position goal, and senior Michelle Mitchell followed with a strong unassisted goal in the fourth quarter to cap off her Firebird career.
Senior leadership was on display as Mitchell, Jada Williams, and the rest of the defensive unit battled against a strong D'Youville attack. Williams also contributed, leading UDC with six draw controls and forcing key turnovers.
Goalkeepers Shannen Graham and Natalia Perkins split time in net for the Firebirds, combining for eight saves on the day against an aggressive Saints offense.
In the draw control circle, UDC fought hard, securing nine draws, while offensively, the Firebirds made the most of their limited opportunities, putting six of their eight shots on goal.
The Firebirds conclude the season with a 1-10, 0-6 ECC record.
