Bowie, MD -The University of the District of Columbia women's basketball team fell to cross-town rival Bowie State University 70-46, in their annual match up on Wednesday afternoon at A.C. Jordan Arena. Despite a strong effort on the boards, the Firebirds struggled offensively against the Bulldogs' defense.
Bowie State set the tone early, outscoring UDC 24-10 in the first quarter. The Firebirds managed to hold the Bulldogs to just 12 points in the fourth quarter but were unable to mount a comeback due to offensive struggles throughout the game.
Laci Johnson led UDC with 12 points, including three three-pointers, while Tori Williams pulled a game-high 13 rebounds while dding seven points. Brenda Mckinney also contributed with 10 rebounds off the bench.
Bowie State's Destiny Ryles was the standout performer, finishing with a game-high 19 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals.
