Firebirds Secure Their First Victory of the Season with a 71-61 Win Over Bloomfield

Washington, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds women's basketball team earned their first victory of the season, defeating Bloomfield College 71-61 in their home opener game Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex.

Kristian Harris led the Firebirds with a double-double, scoring 15 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and dishing out 11 assists. Nia Ford chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Off the bench, Kensley Benjamin and Brenda Mckinney combined for 17 points and 14 rebounds.

UDC's defense limited Bloomfield to just 25.8% shooting from the field, while the Firebirds themselves shot at 42.4%. The Firebirds dominated in the paint, scoring 40 points compared to Bloomfield's 16.

Despite a late push from Bloomfield, including a 21-point effort by Taneshia Tucker, the Firebirds sealed the game with a commanding fourth quarter, outscoring their opponents 25-17.
